Celebrations galore: Sarwar briefed on Aug 14 events

Sarwar said all entry points in the districts are being decorated to mark festivities of Independence Day

More than 50 events are being organised to observe the Independence Day across Rawalpindi Division, informed Punjab Labour and Manpower Minister Raja Ashfaque Sarwar who is also the provincial head of Independence Day celebrations.


At a meeting attended by district presidents and secretaries of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), along with district coordination officers (DCO) of Rawalpindi Division. The elected representatives of the division and DCOs briefed the minister on the schedule for August 14.


Sarwar said all entry points in the districts are being decorated to mark festivities of Independence Day, adding that Independence Day celebrations are being organised and observed by all segments of society, including government departments, schools, colleges, civil society as well as PML-N’s labour, lawyers, ulema and youth wings.


According to the head of Rawalpindi district’s Independence Day committee, Sardar Nasim, the objective of observing the month is to raise awareness among the young generation about the sacrifices rendered by the forefathers to make a separate homeland for them.


The meeting also announced that the Rawalpindi Arts Council has also arranged a number of events which would continue throughout the day, highlighting sacrifices rendered by the heroes of the independence movement.
