SWABI:

A bid to smuggle a large caché of explosives was thwarted by the district police late Monday night and a suspected militant was arrested.

Swabi DPO Sajad Khan told a news conference on Tuesday that the police had received a tip-off which prompted them to put patrols on high alert and start a search operation.

Given these instructions, DSP Arbab Shafiullah and the SHO of Parmoli police happened to stop a suspicious car in Parmoli and a search revealed that it was carrying several explosives. The vehicle was being used to transport 2,000 safety fuses, 1,900 detonators and 1,200 dynamite sticks, which were seized. The driver identified as Abdul Hakeem was arrested and booked.

The police chief added that the bomb disposal unit neutralised the explosives. Separately, during a search operation in Lahor circle, 28 suspects as well as wanted criminals were arrested.
