The announcement comes a day after the PTI chief demanded resignation of the NA speaker for verification of votes in NA-122, Lahore.
Senator Tahir Hussain Mashhadi, chairperson of the Senate Standing Committee on Rules of Procedure and Privileges, told The Express Tribune that the Speaker had recognised the demands of the upper house. He added that Khan, a member of the lower house, would be summoned before a panel of the upper house soon.
Mashhadi, who has been elected chairman of the Committee on Rules of Procedure for the third consecutive time, assured that the matter would be dealt with impartiality.
Khan during an interview had alleged that some people paid to become members of the Senate and some others had spoken in support of the US for favours and also received dollars in return.
According to Senator Adeel, these comments sent a wave of anger and outrage through the upper house prompting them to collectively drafted a motion against it. The motion was adopted unanimously after massive agitation on the floor of the Senate.
As many as 26 senators belonging to all parties including the ruling PML-N, PPP, MQM, PML-Q, JUI-F and even independent candidates signed the motion against Khan's comments.
Since Khan, himself is an MNA, Mashhadi wanted the NA speaker to either take action against Khan or refer the motion back to the Senate committee.
While talking to The Express Tribune Mashhadi said that, “we will seek clarification from Imran Khan as to why he made such a statement against the Senate.”
Meanwhile, Senator Jaffar Iqbal of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) cheerfully said that now is the time to see if Khan respects the law and the Constitution.
Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Shaikh Aftab also endorsed the decision of his peers and said that Khan should appear before the Senate panel to clarify his position.
Senator Haji Adeel of Awami National Party (ANP) said that in case Khan ignored the notice, he can be arrested. He added that since parliamentary rules are not clear, a decision needs to be taken as to what kind of disciplinary actions could be initiated against the accused.

@non sence imran
khan is still non meture kid in politics
The man never smiles and always remain tense but Nawaz Sharif can help, making him PM for one day.
Shocking to hear people saying, protests against wrong doing and corruption is wrong, it is this mindset that has allowed criminals to get into all our institutions and take over. We must not forget it was protests that gave us democracy or sham democracy. Imran Khan is the only leader who is standing upto this group of criminals who have no right to be in power.
@ Imran A Its your right whether to vote him or not or to show interest in his protest/dharna or not. But that's you, not the majority, majority now thinks the opposite. Here is something for your interest, do spare some time for the section which refers to the issues which individual provincial governments have handled most effectively. http://www.dawn.com/herald/survey/
Never again, in my life, i'm voting for Imran Khan. He's losing sanity every passing day.
We are not interested in your protests or your dharna's khan sb. I live in Peshawar, frog God's sake come and stop the rampant corruption that your PTI goons are carrying out under the banner of 'Tabdeeli'.
@asim: nobody is representative of the whole population of Pakistan, all the provinces are under different parties here....bdway "Huh" is a mummy daddy expression u must avoid it ;)
@Realist: that was just to express how bad it is in Pakistan! FBR, FIA, ECP, SC, NAB etc all are being used by rulers. They have no independent approach to any problem faced by the country! Where is the rule of law?
What upper house, the senate, a disgrace to the people of Pakistan. They did nothing except increase their perks and privileges. Imran khan if disgraced the upper house did a very right thing. There aren't any suitable words to further disgrace this so called upper house which is lowest in the ebb. This upper house should be sunk in the Indian ocean with all the corrupt members. Or made soap of their fats and given to the washerman of the country.
Everybody has a right to have an opinion but not their own facts. One can hate PML, PPP, ANP or any other party but hating the entire senate or constitution is treasonous act. If a party does not have many seats in senate or cannot win still they have no right to de-legitimize the whole institution. If a party, leader or their followers do not show much respect then they do not deserve to serve in any national institution. The electorate are not as stupid as some think.
Another shaninigan from weird Imran Khan , his main problem is self exposure, some how be in news no matter dont make sense, since previous CJ didnt help IK more than Nawaz Shareef , IK be a man elections are won by vote bank not supporting CJ, you got quiet afavor now you are tying to be a child.
ik looks and claim to be civilized but he always use very objectionable and uncivilized language and this the "change" from cricketer to politician !
After watching the eng-india match at lord's, sitting in pavilion, sipping champagne, it is back to waht imran does best, being a nuisance!
@Taimoor: Huh! "We reject them" Who are you??? You are not representative of the whole population of pakistan. Rather a handful of mummy daddy burgers inqalabi..
A kindergarten of rowdies and wranglers!
These issues are rising due to confrontational immature politics of IK. The earlier he get matured, the less would be loss for Infant democratic institutions.
@ Dr Khalid these are short terms adjustments for long life democracy. Wishing Khomini's revolution is no way the right destiny for Dynamic prosperous Pakistan
The 'war' ended in 11 May 2013 but this news has not come to Khan just like Japanese guerrilla fighters trapped in deep forests. He is trapped in his delusions it shall take time to reach him.He lives in very strong citadel.
@mirza sovereignty and integrity I'm the Senate it's reprehensible of you to say such hogwash you are an intelligent poster for what ever reason you support ppp god knows it cannot be good stop this rubbish when you know exactly what state pakistan politics are in these ppl are despicable!
PMLn showing his democratic attitude with every passing day.
All the thieves and crrupt elected memebers of upper house getting united against one right man imran khan what a shame...
He should be taught respect and dignity. He and TUQ have no respect for anyone.
We all know what most members of the National Assembly are...corrupt to the core looters. Senate is even worse because these guys are not elected directly and are given seats by a lot of jockeying and bribes. IK is absolutely correct. Go ahead Senate do it. By the way we are still waiting for the lawsuit of Najam Sethi and Iftikhar Chaudhry against IK.
Why is the upper house wasting its time taking action against someone whose upper floor is empty?
Imran Khan should never go to hearing of these thieves.
They will dig their own grave if they take any wrong action against Imran Khan.
They are using rules & procedures for personal vendetta. We reject them.
Pakistan is becoming a hopeless place day by day! I never supported Quadri's "revolution" slogan but given the discriminatory situation in Pakistan I think it needs Khomeini's revolution!
Imran is a strange character. He blames everyone for everything; Punches colleagues on a stage. He has consistently displayed wrong judgement: Musharraf's referendum, APDM, 2008 Election boycott, blind supporter of Iftikhar Chaudhry, Memogate, Drones, Talks with terrorists, trusting Ch. Nisar twice. If you have been so wrong so many times in such a short period of time, you got to look for some other profession. Politics and leadership aren't his strong traits.
The Upper house has acted is such a way to place them selves in the Lower house.
In many countries of the world their senate is a guarantor of country’s sovereignty and integrity. Particularly in the US the senate has most of the power and prestige than a member of house. The senate holds the country’s federating units together and cannot be dismembered. That is the reason it only has elections of not full senate but a portion thereof making sure the senate never loses continuity. The King Khan has a mentality of British rulers of the past and he may have lived there and has family ties but only the Urdu medium poor masses have the electoral power in Pakistan. Till these leaders learn to respect the will of the voters from the heartland of Pakistan they cannot be elected as PM.
A very right ful decision by the Upper house to protect the person who is scared of loosing his seat due to re-counting of votes.
Upper house or Lower house!
PTI all the way!
So wasent it democracy ? Where everyone is allowed to have an openion and to raise red flags ?
Khan has not done anything wrong but as per law he will have to provide some concrete proof againt the upper house. I hope he can bring in some solid proof ! aamen
Upper house!!! Upper house should take action against upper house. They are taking action against wrong person
