MULTAN:

Residents of a village in Chishtian on Friday staged a demonstration in protest against the police for not taking action against some landlords who allegedly abducted and gang-raped two women.

Police said a 21-year-old woman and her 18-year-old sister-in-law were abducted from Chak 429/6-R on June 9. Her family members accused seven landlords for abducting the girls. The women were allegedly taken to the farmhouse of one of the landlords.

The women were allegedly gang-raped there. One of them escaped from the farmhouse and went to her family. She told them where the second woman was being kept.

Nazeer Ahmed, a relative of victims, then contacted the Faqirwaali police and filed a complaint against the accused and asked them to rescue the abducted girl. He said that the police, however, refused to register the complaint.

The family then approached a magistrate of the area, who ordered police to register a case. The magistrate also ordered a medical examination of the girl who had escaped.

The woman’s medical examination was conducted at the Chishtian tehsil headquarters hospital. The medical report confirmed that she had been raped.

On Friday, residents of the village and family members protested against police for not taking action against the accused or trying to recover the second girl.

The protesters have requested Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to take notice of the injustice done to them.

The girls’ family also threatened to set themselves on fire in front of the Punjab Assembly if no action was taken against the Faqirwali police.

Faqirwali police told The Express Tribune that investigations were underway and that they were trying their best to rescue the second girl.
