Finance ministry releases Rs2b for IDPs' assistance

Each family of displaced persons will receive Rs40,000 in month of Ramazan.

ISLAMABAD: The finance ministry on Saturday released Rs2 billion after Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif promised to increase government spending on those displaced by the North Waziristan operation, Express News reported.

The premier, during his visit to Bannu on June 27, had announced a Ramazan package worth Rs20,000 for each family of the IDPs in addition to the earlier announced monthly allowance of the same amount.

With each family to be given Rs40,000 this month, the finance ministry released the sum to be distributed as cash among the displaced.

The displaced families will receive the money in areas where they are registered as IDPs.

As per the latest ISPR data released on June 26, around 466,000 IDPs have been registered so far.
