The residents of several localities have even started collecting donations to repair out-of-order transformers which malfunctioned because of low voltage. The locals say they complained to Pesco officials several times, but the utility has not bothered to repair the non-functional transformers.
Around Rs200 to Rs1,000 are being collected from each house for repair activities in the areas where electricity supply is suspended.
Protesters from Gul Kada said unscheduled load-shedding and breakdown of transformers had made their lives miserable while their elected representatives pay no heed to their problems.
A demonstrator said, “Our area’s transformer has not been working for the past 18 days and Pesco has failed to repair it. With no electricity, water shortage is further compounding our problems.”
