BAHAWALPUR:

Army personnel have been deployed at sensitive places including the Bahawalpur airport and Bahawalpur Central Jail to beef up security to avert any act of terrorism, particularly after the launch of the anti-militant operation in North Waziristan Agency.

Talking to The Express Tribune on Tuesday, Regional Police Officer (RPO) Tahir Roy said the army had been deployed at all sensitive places in the city.

A plan of action had been finalised in coordination with the army to ensure foolproof security arrangements in the aftermath of the North Waziristan Operation, he said. “Military personnel will also be at our disposal to deal with any emergency situation,” the RPO said.

The recently deployed regional police officer said security arrangements for a Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s public gathering in the city on June 27 had been finalised. “Everything will be done to ensure the event is peaceful,” the police officer said.

Cooperation

Roy said the security agencies needed people’s support to root out terrorism. “Terrorism or crime can never be overcome without people’s cooperation. People should also keep an eye on their surroundings and inform the police if they notice anything suspicious,” he said.
