He was more worried about his own safety while sitting in the plane,” the minister said.

LAHORE:

Law Minister Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan on Monday said the nation had realised that power and chaos were Tahirul Qadri’s only objectives. He said this while talking to the journalists in front of the Punjab Assembly.

Mashhood said the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government had put the country back on the road to progress and prosperity within a year. “Political rivals want to derail the process of development,” he said. “The nation has seen Qadri’s real face on his return to the country.”

“As a citizen of a foreign country, Qadri cannot demand security from the Pakistan Army,” he said. The Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) leader did not show any regard about the security of party activists standing on roads. “He was more worried about his own safety while sitting in the plane,” the minister said.

He said that the Punjab government had made security arrangements for the protection of innocent people in Rawalpindi, Islamabad and Lahore. “The way PAT workers damaged public property in Rawalpindi and tried to take over Benazir Airport had created security threats. That is why the Emirates plane had to be diverted to Lahore Airport,” he said.

@Arzoo: Killing and maiming of women, children, and also men must be condemned and the killers must be brought to justice. However, to be fair, on one should take law into their own hands, cause encroachment on public property and brick bat police for removing "security barriers." The liberal-democratic right to protest does not necessitate causing lawlessness and violence and attacking the police by defying the writ of the state, which admittedly is not applied uniformly across all situations and places. One should not see such situations from party perspectives or pro-party perspectives. To be objective, one has to shun one's political biases.

After having killed innocent citizens, the newly appointed law minister of Punjab is proving himself to be more ignorant than the previous one, a feat deemed impossible to achieve. His statement betrays his shameful attitude and mindset. Instead of mending fences and showing remorse for the high-handedness in dealing with women and children by killing and maiming them, he is attempting to portray the innocent as the guilty. The government is digging its' own abode deeper by the day. Dr. Qadri is a dual national, which means he is as much a Pakistani citizen as any other. Overseas Pakistanis send home $15 billion annually making them the largest source of foreign currency reserves, and are entitled to ask for security and safety when in Pakistan. Taking 5 year turns to loot the country with impunity in the name of democracy does not set them apart from the dictatorships of the past.
