FAISALABAD:

A woman died while her husband was stated to be in serious condition after they swallowed poisonous pills in Faisalabad over a domestic dispute on Tuesday.

Madiha, 22, and her 24-year-old husband Irfan Waris were brought to the Faisalabad Divisional Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital from Chak No 229-RB Makkoana after both had tried to commit suicide. They had earlier quarreled over a minor domestic issue.

Family sources said that the couple had started quarreling frequently after the birth of a daughter half a year ago. On Tuesday, the couple engaged in a harsh  verbal exchange and later swallowed the pills. They were taken to a nearby hospital and then shifted to Faisalabad in view of their serious condition.

Muhammad Umar, a relative of the couple, said that Madiha died because she was not given any medical treatment at the local hospital’s emergency ward. “We requested the hospital staff to immediately provide medical treatment to the couple but they did not pay any attention to our requests,” he said, adding that there was no doctor on duty at the hospital when the couple was brought there for treatment.
