KARACHI: A large number of shop owners and jewellers in Gulistan-e-Jauhar staged a protest against the robbery at their shops on Saturday evening. At least half a dozen armed robbers entered a jewellers market in Basera apartments in Gulistan-e-Jauhar and looted jewellery worth Rs2.5 million from four shops. Witnesses said that upon entering the market, gunmen held the watchman and security guard at gunpoint, and snatched their guns. Following the incident, shopkeepers gathered at Jauhar Morr and blocked traffic by setting tyres on fire. They also shouted slogans against the police and blamed them for the robbery. Later, District East SSP Pir Muhammad Shah managed to disperse the protesters after assuring them that the robbers will be arrested soon.
