MUZAFFARABAD:

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Ameer Sirajul Haq met the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) Secretary Farhat Ali Mir on Wednesday to seek his department’s help to retrieve the missing body of a leader of his party who drowned in the River Kunhar.

Nasrullah Shaji, the deputy ameer of JI’s Karachi chapter, drowned while attempting to save the life of his student Sufiyan on Monday.

The SDMA secretary assured the JI ameer of the AJK government’s full support in locating the bodies of Shaji and his student. He told Haq that Rescue 1122 teams from Ghari Dupatta and Mangla had been deployed for search efforts and said the operation would take some time.

Haq thanked the SDMA and Rescue 1122 and said he was fully aware of, and appreciated, the fact that the AJK government was using all available resources for search efforts.

Meanwhile, JI’s AJK chapter hosted a reception in Haq’s honour. Speaking on the occasion, the JI ameer said he hoped that the UK government would give Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain the chance to defend himself.

Talking about the budget, Haq said, “If the present government presented a good budget, we would have welcomed it, but the budget draft was finalized under the supervision of IMF and other international organisations which are not well-wishers of the people of Pakistan.”

There's the Mafia leader who gets people killed for his personal interests and there's a true leader who sacrifices life for the people
