QUETTA: Seven employees of Oil and Gas Development Corporation Limited (OGDCL) were abducted by unidentified men near Sohbatpur in Jaffarabad district on Tuesday morning.

According to sources, a vehicle carrying the seven employees was on its way from Jacobabad to Och gas field in Sui when unidentified armed men intercepted it and took the employees away, including the driver, and left the vehicle near Ghulam Rasool Bridge in Sohbatpur, not far from the border of Dera Bugti district.

The names of five kidnapped employees have been identified as Qurban Ali, Imam Ali, Faiz Rasool, Zyed Mahmood and Sajjad, while the identity of two others could not be ascertained.

Talking to The Express Tribune District Police Officer Jaffarabad Javed Gharsheen said that the footprints of single person were found at the crime scene and it seemed as though the actual incident took place in other area.

“The officials and employees of OGDCL and other companies are usually escorted by Frontier Corps or police while traveling this route. However, the company did not even inform the FC or the Police,” he added.

Gharsheen added the police have sealed all entry and exit points of the district and mounted a manhunt in the area.

The Bugti agency and parts of Jaffarabad are considered unsafe areas as Baloch militants usually carry out such attacks there. However, no group has claimed responsibility for the kidnapping as yet.

Ameer Hamza | 14 years ago | Reply Yet another reminder of how Balochistan is moving towards what one would call a total breakdown. Sardars have always been there but this total failure on part of police to stop this menace quite proves that police is also involved, just like in Karachi. Unfortunately, Balochistan, our largest and most stunningly beautiful province, is now virtually off limits to all those who are either not Baloch or Pathan. How sad!
Gul Khan M 2 | 14 years ago | Reply Balochistan is under the spell and mercy of kidnappers, robbers, car lifters ,private armies and so called youth forces emanating from the houses of the sardars and war lords. It has become hell to travel from quetta to karachi or quetta to jaffarabad by road. Areas have been divided by gangs of various sardars for kidnapping for ransom, car lifting and robberies. Once a person is kidnapped, the sardars of the area becomes a go between the kidnappers and the abducted families. They get a ransom. keeps their share and release the person. Recently mangochar , kadkucha , kalat and khuzdar on Quetta Karachi High way and Naal, Maach, Dera Allah Yar, Dera Murad and Bolan pass on Quetta Jaffarabad highway have become the main hub of these criminal activities. Local populace can name these groups on finger tips, however police is so naive to know them. The trio of criminals, sardars and police is bringing misery to the people. very soon the transport running on these roads will fade away.
