KARACHI:

Mohajir Qaumi Movement - Haqiqi (MQM-H) chairperson Afaq Ahmed suffered a mild angina attack on Monday after which he cancelled his flight to London.

“He complained about the pain on Monday while he was at his house in DHA and we immediately took him to Aga Khan hospital for treatment,” said the MQM-H spokesperson, Waseem Ahmed.

After detailed treatment, the doctors said that his condition was stable. “He will remain admitted at the hospital for another two or three days for further medical check-up,” he said.

“Chairman sahab was scheduled to fly to Dubai on Monday and then take the connecting flight to London to deal with some personal matter,” Waseem explained. “But due to his poor health, the doctors refused to grant him permission to travel.”

The spokesperson denied that Afaq was under house arrest, adding that those who are against the cause of the Mohajirs are spreading baseless rumours. “There is no issue that can stop him from going to London,” he said. “Why would our law enforcement agencies arrest him if he has not been proven guilty yet?”

Meanwhile, the spokesperson of Aga Khan University Hospital said they were not authorised to share information to the media. In such situations, the patient’s attendants deal with the situation and the hospital cannot divulge any information to the media, he added.
