ABBOTABAD: The returning officer (RO) for PK-45 Abbottabad-II on Monday ordered an enquiry on the complaint of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) candidate for by-elections, Ali Asghar Khan, against the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa governor, whose cousin Fareed Abbasi is also running for the seat. The PTI candidate, through his counsel Asad Khan, filed a complaint with Returning Officer Shabir Durani accusing Governor Sardar Mehtab Abbasi of interfering in the upcoming by-elections by holding meetings with voters and using the Governor House in Nathiagali as an election office for the last several days. He also accused the governor of using official resources at his discretion in the election campaign to favour his party, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). The RO ordered that a three-member committee, headed by an assistant commissioner, will probe the complaint, informed Asad, adding if the charges are proved, the PML-N candidate could face disqualification. By-elections on the seat will be held on June 5 as Abbasi vacated his home seat following his elevation as the governor.
