Twenty three companies want in on wind energy projects

Federal information minister says the government will allocate 25 acres of land for the project.

KARACHI: Alternate energy is making headway into Pakistan as 23 companies have shown interest in setting up wind energy generation projects in the country.

Talking to the media after a energy meeting in Karachi on Tuesday, Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira said that the project would help increase electricity generation by 15,000 megawatts in Sindh.

He also said that the government would allocate 25 acres of land for the project.

According to a report published in The Express Tribune, the Korean government has granted $180 million to Korean companies based in Pakistan for investing in the energy sector.

Danish | 14 years ago | Reply sweet dreams or what should be appropriately called 'Suhanay khuwab' for the public.. wind power needs huge set-up cost and according to my knowledge only one or two companies are seriously considering to invest in wind power

I have been toying with the idea for the last two years to talk to companies / government in Pakistan. Two things stop me - one is the security issues - and second the area required. Below is one of the typical Wind Farm specs which will give you an idea of what we need:- Generation Capacity 192 MW Number of Wind Turbines 128 Size of site 16.5 x 10.5 km (173.25km²) Number of landowners involved 34 Transmission connection 220 Kilovolt transmission line crosses the site Each Windmill is at a distance of 60 Metres. and therefore 25 acres may not accomodate a large farm. How will one keep such a large area secure?

settelment of flood victoms.ppp minister is busy to showing beautiful dreams

Khalid Chohan | 14 years ago | Reply @Karim, being cynical always doesnt help. "Rental" power is a stop gap solution maximum for 5 years!! These wind turbine projects IF completed are there for the long run i.e. 25 years plus. Notice the difference?

Syed Nadir El-Edroos | 14 years ago | Reply What? Sounds very optimistic. The largest wind turbine produces 3mw of electricity. They would need to put up 5000 wind turbines to get 15000 MW of electricity, and that would not fit on 25 acres of land. What what what?
