“This crime is totally unacceptable and must be dealt with in accordance with law promptly. I am directing the chief minister to take immediate action and report must be submitted by this eve to my office,” said an official statement issued by the prime minister's office.
The woman was stoned to death by her father and two brothers in an apparent ‘honour killing’ outside the LHC on May 27 after she married a man of her choice.
Farzana Iqbal of Chak 167, Jaranwala, was previously engaged to a cousin but chose to marry Muhammad Iqbal, a resident of Syedawala, a month ago. Her family registered a kidnapping case against Iqbal at Syedawala police station and Farzana arrived at the LHC to record her statement in favour of her husband, officials had said.
Police had said that Farzana was waiting outside the LHC, near a mosque, when members of her family opened fire at her. She had survived the firing and subsequently, nearly a dozen men, including her father, brothers and former fiancée, pelted her with bricks and stones, according to Civil Lines SP Umar Riaz Cheema.
The men continued to stone her until she died on the spot.
Local police had reached the spot soon after Farzana died and registered a case on her husband’s complaint.
Farzana suffered head injuries and was taken to the hospital by passersby, where she was declared dead on arrival.
All attackers except Farzana’s father, Muhammad Azeem, fled from the scene. Azeem confessed to police that he killed his daughter as it was a matter of honour. No further arrests have been made by the Mozang police yet.
According to rights group Aurat Foundation, honour killings claim an estimated 1,000 lives of women every year in Pakistan – the figure is compiled from news reports and the Foundation states that actual statistics may be greater.

As if you, Mr. PM don’t know that there was a heavy police contingent present to provide protocol safety to one of your chosen ones. Impotent they proved to be and incompetent the whole system including your leadership is. This is but once isolated incident in a jungle of beasts of all sorts.
When you depute your law minister to crack jokes on other parties leaders then how will he look after law & order affairs. This is a serious business sir, so please depute a serious person who look into the matters seriously.
CM Punjab took notice of the issue (full stop)
No doubt a murderer (father and rest of the people involved in brutality) must be punished but how about law enforcement agencies and people leading them. This is not a murder took place in a small village and inside a house rather she was brutaly killed in Lahore and most importantly near high court. No police was there? This remind me of those two innocent teen agers killed in Sialkot in front of police. Such acts should lead to resignation and punishment of the law minister, sacking of IG, and lahore DPO.
Whatever happening we should appreciate the news paper and persons who at least have courage to print this .
Hogwash! Nothing will come out of it.Those who indulge in such acts, their hearts have been sealed and there is no cure for it. They will never see the light.
now if this would have happened in some village... still understandable....but happening in pakistan's most cosmopolitan city that too outside lahore high court is shocking .... no one even cared to protect her.... large hearted pakistanis??? :) ;)
Pakistan is approaching 'stone age' - the fundamentalists would be so pleased. It is difficult to believe that there were no police or court security personnel who could have at least arrested the perpetrators!
I am surprised people of Punjab, there must be hundred of peoples, why they not save her, Shame on people,
PM should ask CM to resign instead asking him to report, PM,CM, Police chief, all responsible, they must quit their job immediately Shame on them
According to, the Qisas/Diyat laws the relatives of victim are allowed to forgive the murderer for monetary compensation.
So, the result would be the man walks free because all his relatives were accomplices to the killing her and would agree to forgive the lovely father for 5 rupees compensation, like in most cases of honor killings in this country.
@ Neeraj...amazingly Proactive???? This is anything but proactive. Its at best highly reactive rather media style reactive! Waqea ka notice leylia, I hate this line!!

Would the PM also take notice of killing of minorities
WE pak need to invest in humans need to ensure proper education rather to invest all money in road and metrobuss , Really if we have developed human capital no body can stop us to go out of list of third world to developing world.
@ Neeraj It is just you
Serious Crime rate is skyrocketing in Punjab, especially the crimes against women, children, and minorities as well as terrorism. A province ruled by PML for more than 20 years in the last 25 years.
Killing a daughter is no honor. The culprits must be tried with full force for the maximum penalty. There must not be any excuse for barbarity. In addition, the occurrence of such events repeatedly in the heart of Punjab, and total lack of action by the provincial government demonstrate the incompetence and connivance of the very CM who never hesitates to claim good governance.
What about slapping by PML-N MPA to a doctor and PML-N woman slapping to PTI MPA out side Punjab assembly.
Is it just me who is thinking that Nawaz has changed his approach after returning from India? This is like amazingly proactive.
What a beautiful action... intervention of CM in rape case and PM inn honour killing is evident that governance in punjab is zero.
How about taking notice of the high rate of honour killings in Sindh too? You are supposed to be PM of all 4 provinces.
only report and then putting the report in cold storage
International media published the story yesterday. Did Lahore High Court had taken any notice?.
