The epicentre of the quake, which hit at 20:49 GMT on Friday, was located 65 kilometres southeast of Myitkyina, capital of Kachin state in northern Myanmar, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) said.
The earthquake struck at a depth of 24 kilometres.
