Confucius’s teachings have a greater currency now. Sidelined during the Chinese Revolution, he is now exalted as a leading Chinese teacher-philosopher.
This was said by COMSATS Humanities Department Adviser Dr Maqsudul Hasan Nuri during a lecture at the China Study Centre on Tuesday, said a press release.
The philosophical teachings of Confucius exhort virtues of education, honesty, hard work, discipline, respect for family and hierarchy at home and work. They stress the “middle way” and social harmony, Dr Nuri said
His value-set, according to Nuri, have much to account for the progress of East and Southeast Asian nations including Japan and China.
Confucian ethics foster harmony and present an image of a “soft power” engaged in “peaceful development.” China’s business ethics incorporate Confucian principles which are setting realistic targets, abiding by commitments, delivering concrete results and non-interference in the affairs of others, said Nuri.
China Study Centre Director Tanveer Abbas Jafery conducted the proceedings.
