PESHAWAR:

Peace Education and Development Foundation (PEAD) has launched a new initiative to address the hardships and trauma faced by people displaced from their homes by war and violence in Fata and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

According to a statement released on Monday, the ‘Provision of Equitable and Essential Educational Service’ was launched by PEAD, in collaboration with Unesco under the Central Emergency Response Fund. The project aims to address the IDPs – especially women and children – living both in and out of camps in areas like Peshawar Valley, Jalozai Camp in Nowshera and New Durrani Camp in Lower Kurram Agency.

PEAD Programme Manager Tariq Hayat said women and children are most vulnerable in times of war and other disasters, especially with respect to mental and psychological health. Led by Dr Irum Irshad, chairperson of the department of psychology at University of Peshawar, a specialised team of psychologists has been assigned to work with children so they may lead normal and healthy lives after the conflict.
