KARACHI:

Three days have passed since the disappearance of two United Nations employees from the city's outskirts, yet the police continue to delay registration of the case due to a dispute between the district West and district East officials over jurisdiction.

Two employees working for the United Nations International Children's Fund (UNICEF) went missing from the city's outskirts under mysterious circumstances. The employees, Farrukh and Sami, had reportedly come from Hyderabad to visit a family resort in the city on Thursday and have been missing since. UN officials also confirmed the disappearance of two of their employees from Karachi.

Though police investigators suspect that the men may have been kidnapped for ransom, they are not ready to register the case because of a dispute between the Gulshan-e-Maymar police in district West and Sohrab Goth police in district East over jurisdiction.

"It is not our case as the incident occurred within the limits of district East police," said the district West police chief, DIG Javed Odho. "We will register a case if a complainant approaches us."

On the other hand, Sohrab Goth DSP Qamar Ahmed said that the cell phone's locations tracked by investigators had confirmed that they were not kidnapped from the district East's jurisdiction and that the case should be registered with the district West police.
