Healthcare: Govt to increase NICVD grant to Rs1b

Sindh health secretary says Sindh government's top priority is to steer the hospital out of the financial crisis.

KARACHI: Sindh health secretary Iqbal Hussain Durrani announced that the government will increase the financial grant for National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) from Rs400 million to Rs1 billion from the upcoming fiscal year. While addressing the inaugural ceremony of a 70-bed medical unit - IV in the east ward at NICVD, he revealed that it is the top priority of the Sindh government to steer the hospital out of the financial crisis it is facing, and that a supplementary grant will also be released for the purpose. Furthermore, he mentioned that he has discussed the construction of a paediatric cardiac surgery unit in the hospital with Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, and the project worth Rs1.7 billion will soon be under way after the final approval.
