A PCB official confirmed that the board has sought an explanation from the veteran all-rounder for his statements given to media on his return from Bangladesh after crashing out of World Twenty20 at Jinnah International Airport, Karachi last week.
Talking to the media Afridi had slammed his teammates for poor performances and blamed batsmen for the defeat against West Indies.
He had said that he would accept the captaincy as a challenge, if offered.
Later, Mohammad Hafeez resigned as the Pakistan Twenty20 captain.
The official claimed that the PCB has not yet received Afridi's reply.
Sethi says Afridi may have been pushed by media for statement
Commenting on the issue, PCB Chairman Najam Sethi said, “had I been in place of Shahid Afridi, I would not have spoken to media. But he would have been forced to do that at the same time as the media would have huddled him.”
“I don’t know whether Shahid Afridi was granted permission to talk to media or not,” said Sethi.
“If any cricketer has come up with a negative statement in media, I should be concerned and not the media,” he added.
Afridi replies
According to sources, Afridi has replied to the show-cause notice that he had received by saying that he was merely responding to a question posed by a reporter and that later his reply was taken out of context. He added that he had no obsession with captaincy.

It has become habitual for Afridi to make a silly statement and later claim that he was quoted out of context.
Afridi is a drama queen with all the politics he does in the team. Afridi should retire , he had all his chances a lot more than he deserved. Time for him to go or should I say its been long over due.
Too bad PCB! I am issuing notice to Sethi!
This arrogant Afridi needs to be kicked off the team. He thinks he alone is the reason the team win's games. No team work. Just plain arrogance.
Najam Sethi said, “had I been in place of Shahid Afridi, I would not have spoken to media.
You have a very big mouth Mr. Sethi.
He is suffering from foot-in-mouth disease.
Slamming his team-mates for poor performance? How about your own dismal performance, Afridi? The way he got himself out against WI was a complete shocker - walking out of the crease lazily, trying to reach a wide ball......
Captain Hafeez took the responsibility, apologized to the nation and stepped aside like a man. He got crucified by the fans in return. Afridi, on the other hand, blamed others even though he was as much culprit if not more and may become the next captain of the team. . Some things about Pakistan Cricket, I will never understand.

PCB is just a drama. Same player was a hero when he played crucial innings against Ban and Ind in Asia cup. And now just because he said that he would accept captaincy, no respect is being given to him. What shame. Either punish the whole team or neither.
