The request stated that the former president wanted to visit his ailing mother and therefore his name should be removed from the ECL.
On March 29, it was reported that Musharraf’s mother, Zahra Musharrfa, who has been ill for some time now, was shifted from Dubai to Sharjah’s W Wilson hospital after her condition suddenly worsened.
Earlier, Musharraf had requested permission to visit his mother in Dubai despite having to be in court on March 31, 2014 for a hearing – but this request was dismissed.
Last year, the Sindh High Court (SHC) had put Musharraf’s name on the ECL, asking him not to leave the country without seeking prior permission from the courts concerned over his alleged involvement in several cases.
Shifting the ball in each other's court
On April 2, the government had responded to Musharraf’s request to remove his travel restrictions with an ambiguously worded communiqué, shifting the burden of responsibility on the courts.
The interior ministry had informed the former president that the government was “unable to accede to his request” of removing his name from the ECL “on the basis of record pronouncements of the superior courts.”
After the Special Court had read out charges to him on March 31 in the treason case for subverting and circumventing the Constitution of Pakistan by imposing emergency on November 3, 2007, Musharraf had filed an application seeking removal of his name from the ECL so that he could travel abroad to seek medical treatment and see his ailing mother. The court, however, had said it did not have jurisdiction over the matter and it was for the government to decide.

Just watch NewsEye of April 3 ,2014 and see how Col Raheem has been exposed on his lies about Musharraf Raheem is the petitioner in the Judges detention a case , another pack of lies destroyed
@Ch. Allah Daad: Not true at all. You must be a Nawaz supporter. People will stoop at anything to make Musharraf look bad. Musharraf also eats monkey brains. Nawaz is the fourth richest man in this country. At $1.4 billion [and counting] four more years to go.. This is common knowledge. If you know where to look. Where did he get this money from?
Leave a true and honest man alone.
No matter how many times you tell this nation the truth,no matter how many times the lies against Musharraf are proven wrong and no matter how many times factual records of his excellent tenure are presented this nation will still disrespect him. The only reason is because he is honest and incorruptible, this nation likes to give a pat on the back to those that loot the money of this country and run their pseudo democracy in the form of a monarchy.
Let them be sir,Pervez Musharraf is a great man and there is no doubt about it but this nation will sadly never realise that.
A true leader without a doubt.
Mush should realize that his lawyers are fooling him by over tangling the matter and securing their fees. Bhutto was hanged in the same manner.
High treason under Article 6 of the Constitution is a very very serious charge and crime. And Musharaf has been charged under article 6
If Musharaf is allowed to leave country, then every murderer, criminal should be allowed to leave the country either for medical treatment or see their mother.
Remeber Article 35 of the Constitution guarantees Equality to all citizens
The Govt. finds itself caught between a rock and a hard surface and cannot make a decision --peiod. The PM wants to involve all STAKEHOLDERS . He was elected to lead but want's to be led. For popular decisions no body is consulted, he wants the limelight but for Muaharraf?
@Wali:
Pakistani politicians are not interested in the country's progress nor are they interested in the masses. All they want is personal revengeful politics. They think of themselves as kings and the country as their private property. shame.
I am not a Musharraf supporter but I'd much like to see this whole episode come to an end and let Pakistan focus on what's more important now - menace of terrorism and a better future for us all - maybe wishful thinking.
