String of explosions: Three houses blown up in separate incidents

HANGU/ JAMRUD:


Two houses and a hujra (guest house) were destroyed by bombs planted alongside their boundary walls in separate incidents in Hangu district and Jamrud, Khyber Agency in the early hours of Tuesday.


DPO Iftikhar Ahmad said a huge blast occurred in Aliabad area of Hangu around 4am creating panic among residents. Unidentified militants had planted a high-intensity bomb outside the boundary wall of Abdul Aziz’s house. The blast destroyed the main gate along with two rooms while two other rooms were partially damaged. No human loss was reported.

A bomb disposal unit official said around eight kilogrammes of explosives were packed inside a pressure cooker. The owner of the house said he does not have any rivals and did not know why he was targeted. Police filed a case and started investigation.

Meanwhile, a house and a hujra (guest house) were blown up in Jamrud, Khyber Agency in a separate incident.

Khasadar official Amjid Khan Afridi said the first explosion occurred in Ghariza, outside the house of Jaidad Khan. The main gate and boundary wall of the house were damaged, said the official, adding no human loss occurred as all the family members were sleeping in another room. The device was detonated by a remote control.

In the second incident, a hujra was destroyed by unidentified militants in Naye Abadi. Ali Sher, an official of the political administration from Jamrud, said the remote-controlled device went off, destroying the main gate of Johar Shah Khel’s hujra.
Part of the boundary wall collapsed due to the intensity of the blast.

Cases were filed in both the incidents.
