Investment-oriented: Chinese see scope of JVs in multiple sectors

Show interest in exploring Pakistan’s market.

LAHORE: Chinese delegates have said that there is vast scope for joint ventures between the two countries in the fields of agriculture, textile, pharmaceutical, automobile, leather, transport and construction.

The delegates, representing various Chinese companies and currently on a visit to Pakistan, were addressing the Trade and Investment Conference held under the aegis of Pakistan-China Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCJCCI) at the Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The delegates expressed their interest in exploring Pakistan’s market for business matchmaking, joint ventures and other investments in their respective fields. They were curious to know more in areas concerning building materials, home appliances, lighting, machine and equipment and project contracting.



“The purpose of this conference is to explore different prospects of trade and business between the Pakistani and Chinese entrepreneurs,” said PCJCCI President Shah Faisal Afridi, while welcoming the second delegation from the Yantai Federation of Commerce and Industry, which last visited in August last year. “This could strengthen economies of both nations.

“We hope to find more opportunities and set a good example for other Chinese investors to follow,” he said, hoping that the two countries would take concrete measures to complement each other’s economies.

Yantai Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vice Chairman Tan Tan Chence, speaking as the head of the delegation, hoped for better communication between the two countries and that more enterprises would come to Pakistan from Yantai Chamber in future to expand bilateral business relations.

“It rained when we came here and that symbolises growth and indicates both nations will experience a profitable future together,” said Chence.

Wang Zi Hai, president of the Lahore branch of the Association of Chinese Enterprises in Pakistan, said that keeping in view the augmenting collaboration of Pakistan and China in Lahore, a zonal office of the Yantai Chamber of Commerce and Industry is going to be established.

The Conference was followed by detailed presentations including investment opportunities in the textile sector with special emphasis on relocation of Chinese textile industry in Pakistan.
