Honour killing: SC orders arrest of sitting MNA

Judges were upset to know that the acting IG Iqbal Mehmood assigned the investigations into the double murder to a low-ranking official.

The Supreme Court (SC) ordered the Sindh police chief to appoint an impartial police officer to investigate the murder of two women declared 'kari' and arrest the culprits, including a sitting MNA Ghous Bux Mahar.


Chief Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani, who headed the three-member bench, gave this order during the hearing of suo motu proceedings regarding murder of two women declared 'kari' on the order of jirga allegedly led by the legislator Mahar. On Friday, the judges were upset to know that the acting IG Iqbal Mehmood assigned the investigations into the double murder to a low-ranking official.

The bench ordered him to constitute a committee, headed by DSP Kalhoro.
