The lawn mania continues with Zara Shahjahan

The lawn fever has gripped the women of our country, it has gripped them well.

February is almost over and spring is here. As we bid farewell to the short winter, Pakistani people gear up to welcome the dreadful summer in style. The onset of spring means the arrival of all the new designer lawn collections. This is the magical time when we see prissy society aunties push, shove and sometimes even punch to lay their hands on their favourite piece of lawn outfit. Every year women wait impatiently for these designer lawns to surface in exhibitions.

The passion and enthusiasm with which women purchase their favourite pieces is truly unmatched. The sight at these exhibitions is unimaginable. The women want to grab the best prints before others get hold of them. There are many instances of arguments and sometimes people go even as far as getting into cat fights. The prints are rare and not repeated again, the designer lawns are seen as a status symbol.

As the season of the lawn mania sets in, Zara Shahjahan comes back with her latest collection for Kamal Lawn. With practice and experience, the designer has honed her print designing skills and has produced multi-faceted prints this time around. When you think of Shahjahan, the first thing that comes to mind is floral mania. While all of Zara Shahjahan’s collections are predominantly floral based, whether it is prêt, luxury prêt or bridal, it is exciting to see how the designer attempts to control her penchant for all things floral, but cannot help but put in some floral accents.

Kamal Lawn by Zara Shahjahan launches 15 new designs in two-color variations; inspired by Indian patterns and motifs. The collection visits some motifs from Islamic art while experimenting with Sindhi embroidery for embellishment. At the media preview of the collection, Shahjahan shows multiple variations of how the outfits can be stitched. From scalloped embroideries to overly patterned sleeves, the collection also sees glimpses of Chinese pottery inspired prints.



“I tried my best to stay away from florals this year but somehow my natural instinct towards it has forced me to incorporate my signature motifs and style into the prints,” explains Zara Shahjahan at the preview, “I was thinking of revamping my style for PFDC this year, but after seeing Dolce and Gabbana go back to florals, I have scraped my idea and will revisit what I know best and love.”

The designer’s new lawn collection, while designed in more detail and depth, resonates the designer’s signature style aesthetic.

The collection will be available for retail from March 11, 2014.
