Faiz Aman Mela kicks off with music, poetry

Event was hosted by PTV in collaboration with Faiz Foundation Trust and coalition of political party.

The annual Faiz Aman Mela was held on Sunday at the Bagh-i-Jinnah Open Air Theatre to mark the 103th birthday of Faiz Ahmed Faiz.


The poetry session was chaired by Dr Khalid Javed Jan, famous for his poem Mein Baghi Hoon Artists from across the country, including Arif Lohar, Waris Baig, and Abrarul Haq performed at the event. The event was hosted by Pakistan Television (PTV) in collaboration with the Faiz Foundation Trust and a coalition of political including the Awami Workers Party.

The birthday celebrations had kicked off with an enthralling performance by the Tarz Orchestra Ensemble from Karachi at the Alhamra Cultural Centre on February 8. On February 14, Mahmood Farooqui and Danish Hussain brought the magic of Dastangoi to Lahore.

On February 23, Deeda-i-Maana Kusha, a glossary of the words, idioms and stanzas used in Faiz’s poetry, will be launched at the Lahore Literature Festival. Speakers there will include Amjad Tufail, Tariq Hashmi, and Mohammad Asif Awan. The session will be moderated by writer Musharraf Farooqui.

The celebrations will conclude with Faiz Ghar’s fifth anniversary on March 1. The event will include a review of the achievements of the Faiz Foundation Trust. The evening will end with the singing of Faiz’s poetry by the Faiz Ghar music class.
