KARACHI: Poetry and literature lovers are organising a traditional Saknan-e-Shehr-e-Quaid Mushaira, which will be held on March 22 at the Expo Centre and is expected to be attended by a large number of guests. Hassan Imam Siddiqui, a member of the mushaira committee, told The Express Tribune that the deteriorating law and order situation in the city has not discouraged the poets and writers from organising such events. Last year, the law and order situation had prevented the mushaira committee from holding an event but for this year, businessmen, students, members of the civil society, government functionaries as well as leaders of various political parties have lent support to the committee. “We have also requested the home ministry to release the NOC of at least eight poets from India and some others from Canada, Bangladesh and America who are expected to arrive for the event,” Siddiqui added. The Sakina-e-Shehr-e-Quaid Mushaira has been taking place since 1989. Karachi Metropolitan Corporation is the main organiser of this year’s event.
