No respite: Three people lose their lives in target killings

A doctor was shot and injured in Gulistan-e-Jauhar.

KARACHI: A Quran tutor was among three people shot dead in different acts of target killings in the city on Wednesday.

A Quran teacher, 35-year-old Jamilur Rehman, was shot dead on Rashid Minhas Road. A passer-by, Sahid Zar, 30, was also wounded in the attack. Yousuf Plaza police officials said that the deceased lived in Quaid-e-Azam Colony in Gulshan-e-Iqbal and was going to teach Quran to his students on a motorcycle when at least two armed men targeted him. He was shot multiple times and died on the spot. His body was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy. SHO Malik Ayub said that the deceased had no affiliation with any religious group.

Separately, 40-year-old Mohammad Yaqoob, son of Ghulam Akbar, was shot dead in North Nazimabad Block-I. SHO Tariq Mehmood said that the deceased was a security guard by profession and was on duty at the street near Imam Clinic when unidentified persons shot and killed him.

In a separate incident, 22-year-old Kashif Iqbal was shot dead. Pak Colony police said that the deceased was sitting outside his residence when unidentified persons shot and killed him apparently over personal enmity.

Meanwhile, a doctor, 45-year-old Syed Nabeeluddin, was shot and injured when at least two armed men riding a motorcycle opened fire at him in Gulistan-e-Jauhar. The incident occurred when the victim was on his way home to Gulistan-e-Jauhar. DSP Majeed Abbas said that the victim used to run a private clinic in Korangi. He was shifted to Aga Khan Hospital where his condition is termed critical.
