KARACHI:

Voters of Sindh are being treated like ‘second-class’ citizens by those running the province, complained Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid’s (PML-Q) provincial president Haleem Adil Sheikh.

“It pains me to see the law and order situation of the province,” he said. “The common man doesn’t dare to go outside his home after sunset.”

Addressing a press conference at Karachi Press Club on Monday, Sheikh said that no efforts are being made to recover those who have been kidnapped while the police also failed to arrest those involved in murders, including the killers of journalist Shan Dahar. “The police are under the influence of landlords and public representatives,” he alleged.

He said that the infrastructure of cities is completely destroyed, adding that corruption is not considered a crime anymore. “We demand that the provincial government takes serious measures to maintain the law’s writ across the province.”

Criticising the Karachi operation, Sheikh said that the situation has deteriorated since it started. “There are more reports of killings, kidnappings and street crime as compared to when the operation had not been launched,” he said before saying that the operation is just a political move.

Sheikh added that his party was reorganising at a grass-roots level and concluded by claiming that they will be looking to help those who seek justice.
