The United Nations is available to mediate between Pakistan and India over Kashmir if the two sides request such assistance, the Press Trust of India (PTI) reported, citing a a spokesperson for UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.
“On Kashmir, (as with other conflicts around the world), our good offices are available if both sides (India and Pakistan) were to request that. And that remains the case today,” PTI quoted Acting Deputy Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General Farhan Haq as saying.
Haq had been responding to a question on whether the UN chief would propose to India to sit down and talk with Pakistan to resolve the longstanding Kashmir issue.

kashmir issue must be resolve peacefully. it is a main obstacle in development of both countries and we want to see india as a best neighbor among south asian countries.i like indian people n their country.

kashmir is an indispensible part of india as per the instrument of accession signed in 1947.
kashmir dispute is one of the oldest dispute b/w india and pakistan,india is still not intrested to solvd this issue,this issue should be solved according to the wishes of kashmiri people.being kashmiri i strongly condemns the indian injusties activities which they are doing with us.
The issue of Kashmir is between India and Pakistan. Under Shimla Agreement 1972 both nations agreed to resolve this issues bilaterally. Why UN is trying to meddle into this. Dont they have any job to do? Farhan Haq seems to be a Paki trying to his bit on behalf of his countrymen. Pakistan is never serious about talks as whenever there is some headway to the discussions they do something to derail the dialogues for e.g. conducting terror attacks on india (Mumbai attacks, Parliament attacks etc.), Kargil invasion etc. I think Kashmir is the only issue that unites the Pakistanis as one nation and once this issue is resolved they wont have anything to bind them as a nation.
kahmir is an issue as well as a solution in itself for the political leadership on both sides of the fence. The solution will be again an issue how to earn public favor in elections. So the moral of story is that they theirselves will never intend to solve it inpite of UN,s Good Offer.
@unbelievable: Dear unbelievable, Perhaps you could inform us as to how many UN designated terrorists are living comfortably in Pakistan? Further, does anybody take the UN seriously anymore?
If the UN becomes involved with Kashmir It will be like throwing petrol on the fire.
How many UN designated terrorist are currently living comfortable lives in Pakistan? That should tell you how serious Pakistan is when it comes to the United Nations.

Both Pakistan and India are parties to Kashmir dispute.But don't forget that kashmiries are themselves are big party to dispute. UN resolution is still relevant and necessary for resolution of long standing issue. Being a kashmiri I shall strongly recommend that both countries must give kashmiries opportunity under umberlla of UN for their right to self determination.

Our good offices are available. Really? Even when those countries have failed to honor the resolutions already passed by you? And even after they have gone to war over those very same disputes, basically telling you to stuff your resolutions you-know-where?
Pakistan might be ok with talking to their Taliban, but India is not.
