Three months late: Workers board releases salaries of 4,000 staffers in K-P

Employees association chief says will now begin struggle to get pensions.

The Islamabad Workers Welfare Board (WWB) has released pending salaries of 4,000 employees of the board’s Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa chapter who had not been paid their dues for three months.

The announcement was made by WWB Employees Association K-P President Shah Zulqarnain during a news conference at the Peshawar Press Club on Sunday, according to a press release.

Zulqarnain said they were handed over the salaries when the finance division released the money from Islamabad. He further informed the 4,000 employees who had not been paid comprised staff members of the Working Focus Grammar School, Labour Colonies, Industrial Homes, Zonal Office, Head Office, Monotech, Metric Tech and Polytech Institute.



The association’s president appreciated the role of K-P Chief Minister (CM) Pervez Khattak, secretary funds, Islamabad and WWB for disbursing the pending salaries.

Zulqarnain demanded the K-P government to convene a meeting of the assembly committee that had been established for swift resolution of the board’s issues, including restoration of employees who have been sacked in the past six months.

He said they will now start a struggle to get their pensions, service rules, proper service structure and job security.

In a meeting on January 20, the CM urged WWB members to effectively utilise their legal and monitoring powers to purge the board of corruption and guarantee transparency in admissions, appointments, tenders and contracts in its educational and vocational institutes. Khattak had also said at the meeting that even though the board falls under the federal government’s domain, it must follow the province’s policy which for K-P means strictly following rules and regulations and leaving no room for nepotism and corruption.
