Taking up the mantle: K-P welcomes new PHC CJ

PESHAWAR: The beginning of a new era was marked at the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Governor’s House on Friday, as Fasihul Mulk took his oath as the new Chief Justice (CJ) of Peshawar High Court.

Mian Fasihul Mulk was born on April 8, 1952 in Mian Kakakhel, Charsadda. After completing his BSc and LLB at the University of Peshawar, he started practising at the lower courts in 1980 as an advocate, and then as a lawyer at the high court in 1983. In 1996, Mulk was elevated as an advocate of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

CJ Mulk was elevated to the bench as additional judge in 2009 and confirmed as a permanent judge within two years. While remaining a monitoring and administrative judge of the anti-terrorism court at Peshawar, he also served as chairman of K-P Bar Council Enrolment Committee. Mulk was also a member of the election tribunal for the May 2013 general elections.

He has also served as a special prosecutor for customs and taxation from 1989 to 1999, and as special public prosecutor for bank offences during the same tenure. Mulk remained the legal adviser to the Industrial Development Bank of Pakistan from 1993 to 2002 and Deputy Prosecutor General of the National Accountability Bureau from 2000 to 2009.

Among those present to witness Governor Shaukatullah administer the oath to the incoming CJ, were Chief Minister Pervez Khattak, Minister for Information and Public Relations Shah Farman, Chief Secretary Shahzad Arbab along with other senior members of the government and judiciary.
