ECP reinstates 15 lawmakers

Election Commission of Pakistan restores membership of 15 more lawmakers after they file statements of their assets.

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan has restored the membership of 15 more lawmakers after they filed statements of their assets.

According to the country’s electoral law, lawmakers are barred from carrying out their duties if they fail to submit details of their assets by September 15 every year. Those who do not do so are given a 15-day grace period after which the election authorities can take action against them. This year, the ECP had suspended memberships of 141 lawmakers. Under the law, legislators’ memberships are restored as soon as they file details of his/her assets.

Membership of three MNAs, seven Punjab Assembly members, two Sindh Assembly and three Balochistan Assembly members were restored on Friday after they submitted the relevant documents.

The MNAs are Shahzada Muhiyuddin, Rana Nazir Ahmed Khan and Rana Abdul Sattar while members of the Punjab Assembly include Muhammad Fayyaz, Muhammad Awais Aslam, Rana Shamim Ahmed, Naseer Ahmed, Syed Abrar Hussain, Sardar Aamir Talal and Amna Buttar.

Memberships of Sindh Assembly members Syed Ghulam Shah and Qazi Shams Din and Balochistan Assembly members Muhamamd Ismail Gujar,  Zamrak Khan and Uzma Ahad have also been restored.
