Hit at once: One person dies in railway accident

One person was killed while three others, including the assistant train driver, were injured when the Lahore-bound Awami Express hit a tractor trolley, a car and a motorcycle at the Dubbar railway crossing near Rohri on Friday evening.


The Awami Express, on the way to Lahore from Karachi, hit the tractor trolley, car and motorcycle which were trying to cross the railway track. The victim, Asif Machi, and three others were shifted to the hospital. According to eyewitnesses, no personnel were deployed at the railway crossing. Though the driver applied brakes to avoid the accident, it hit the vehicles on the track and dragged them for approximately 500 metres before stopping, added the eyewitnesses.


The train driver, Rana Mohammad Sarwar, said that while approaching the railway track, he saw a tractor trolley loaded with sugarcane crossing and applied brakes, but couldn’t avert accident.
