Red carpet: Our choice

The People's Choice Awards saw a number of actors experimenting with colours and silhouettes on the red carpet.

The People’s Choice Awards kicked off this year’s award season on Wednesday evening in Hollywood.

The fan-friendly evening saw a number of actors experimenting with colours and silhouettes on the red carpet, making it a sartorial night to remember. The biggest trend of the night was form-fitted knee-length dresses that came in all shapes and sizes. Here are our top picks of the evening:

Sandra Bullock

The reigning box office queen from last year is definitely on a high in terms of style. Although, we are not fans of the slightly messy, wavy hairdo, her Peter Pilotto asymmetrical dress gives her a fun and flirty appeal. While critics have bashed it, we beg to differ and feel that the age-defying beauty looks extremely refreshing. The neutral make-up keeps the look casual and those lime green Kurt Geiger heels add a bit of edge to her look.

Sarah Michelle Gellar

Va Va Voom, actor Sarah Michelle Gellar is no longer a leather-jacket wearing vampire slayer. Instead, she is turning quite a few heads in this B&W Sachin + Babi dress and Jimmy Choo heels. With that voluminous hairdo and the metal detailing around the neckline, SMG looks like a supernatural force of chic to be reckoned with.

Jennifer Hudson

If you don’t know how to rock an edgy look without wearing black, you’d do well to take a cue from Jennifer Hudson’s flawless space-age look from the evening. Wearing a crisp, white bodycon dress by Kaufman Franco and simple transparent sandals, the singer-actor looks out-of-this-world. Her sleek, razor-sharp hairdo is just OMG!

Allison Williams

Talk about bringing some real funk to the red carpet! Girls actor Allison Williams looks fab in this sleek, vivid David Koma dress. The white leather belt detailing around her waist and those three-toned pointed heels add to the drama of her ensemble. She is definitely someone to watch out for on future red carpets.

Ashley Rickards

The Awkward star doesn’t look even the slightest bit awkward in the demure, ivory lace dress by Michael Cinco, complemented with vintage jewels. While the old-fashioned hairdo suits her overall look, we would have definitely preferred a more vivacious frou from the petite actor.

Nina Dobrev

The Vampire Diaries star sparkled on the red carpet in a crystal embellished Jenny Packham dress that fit her like a glove. Despite a silhouette that extended past her knee, long sleeves, and a high neckline, she still looked sensational. Topping off the look with a braided bouffant and soft make-up, the brunette beauty took our breath away with this look.
