The first look of the new Ms. Marvel, Kamala Khan, was revealed by Wired. The preview would also be featured in the All-New Marvel NOW! Point One issue which is due to go on sale in print and digital versions on January 9.
The first look shows a short sequence where Kamala is in her superhero mode and is battling a giant mechanical claw. It also features her ability to shape-shift. She uses this ability to reduce her size to escape car hurled by the claw. Then, she increases her size to match the claw and fling the car back at it. The sequence ends with a call from her mother yelling at her for being late for her cousin's 'mehndi'.
Kamala is a 16-year old American Muslim girl of Pakistani descent and takes on the title of Ms. Marvel after discovering that she possesses shape-shifting abilities, which previously belonged to the immensely popular character ‘Carol Danvers’.
It has been scripted by G Willow Wilson, a writer who has channeled her own experiences as a Muslim woman into comics like Cairo and Air. Joining her is artist Adrian Alphona, who co-created the Runaways with Brian K. Vaughan and has most recently been seen on Uncanny X-Force.
Wilson said that she wanted the character to have something kinetic and physical that would look fun on the page, not the stereotypical girl powers like being able to float or sparkle. There was a lot of back and forth about what her power set should be, and we settled on making her a polymorph said Wilson.
Further explaining the character, Wilson said that he wanted Kamala to be the representative of the young American Muslims as they are not how a young Muslim woman is idealised to be. The key thing is the authenticity of the character, and not trying to please everybody with a cardboard cutout that doesn’t feel like a human being with flaws and quirks and charms, said Wilson.

Vedic Sanskrit and Old Persian were developed in parallel. Old Persian (and Avestan) might have even come into existence slightly earlier than Vedic Sanskrit. Both languages developed from Proto-Indo-Iranian which itself is a offshoot of the ancient West Asian language Proto-Indo-European. No, India is not the birthplace of the Indo-European language group. Stop listening to the lies that your ultra-nationalist leaders feed you and instead open any non-Indian anthropology or history textbook.
@MK: "Bharat" comes from "MahaBharat" (the great Indian Epic in Vedic language), which the Indian subcontinent was called for more than 7,000 years old. It does not have any Iranian, Hebrew or British roots, which developed much later.
@Four: "Parsi" the persian language, developed much later, also originated from Sanskrit like all other Indo-European langauges. Stan in Parsi originnated from "Stana" in Sanskrit meaning 'place'.
@Mr. Khan:
India (origin: greek word "indio" or land beyond the Indus, was granted by Alexander the Great) was known as "India" for the outer world since 300 BC, way before the British came out of their caves! So there is no question of the British giving India its name.
The "Hind" of India is of Indo-aryan origin to mean a "gentle person". The Hind used by Arabs mean "100 camels", which is totally different.
BTW, English as part of the Indo-European languages is rooted in and originated from Sanskrit. It is the English who borrowed from "Bharat" not vise-versa!!!!
"Kamala"; 16 year old girl from Pakistan!! Are you sure its not Malala??
"Bharat" originates from the words 'Bha' which means 'Not only poor, but also rude' in Hebrew, and 'Brat', which usually implies 'Young, spoiled, and cranky', from British English.
Not that it matters, because our fellow Indians would love to descend from any first world influence.
@Arsalan: It is was they decide to have women super as people love Burka avenger in west lot
Just looking at the ridiculously intolerant comments I realize this country is hopeless.
@Arsalan: you can read that article this Disney world people plan to introduce the muslim super hero after seeing the success of Burka Avenger, u can read that
"" 6 Lessons Disney Could Learn From Pakistan's 'Burka Avenger,,Part karate kid and part superhero, Pakistan's first animated television series is a better role model for girls than any princess Disney's ever drawn.called Burka Avenger, We think Disney could learn a thing or two about what a female protagonist should look like from the fearless Burka Avenger."" http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/07/29/burka-avenger-vs-disneyn3660387.html
@LunacyAsailam
Get your facts straight. Stan is of proto Indo-Iranian origin. The word's origin can be further traced back to Proto Indo-European. Please don't confuse religion with language.
P.S: I think India "ripped off" Pakistan when they decided to name their country after Pakistan's Indus River.
@Lunacy,
Maybe it is Kam'aal from the persian root, and not the Sanskrit Kamal? Look it up.
At least she should wear a veil and a burka ,but she is in skirts !!! These are unislamic.
Kiya lunatic baat karty ho LunacyAlaikum.
That's like, such a narrow way of looking at it. Language or name does not define your affiliation to any sect, religion or race. Be thankful that someone has taken the time out to create a hero representing Muslims (and Pakistanis) and you, yourself - the paragons of representation simply do not have the capacity or wherewithal to ever do so. FYI - the etymology of Khan is Mongol. Remember the hordes that laid waste to the Muslim empire a few centuries ago? How come no one complains about that?
I guess we should stop driving cars because well, you know, there may be someone of Indian descent designing them somewhere. Or better yet - stop watching advertisements on TV because well, you know, unbeknownst to you - most of them are being produced in India right now. Also FYI, they are ALL Pakistani products.
Wow ET graphic designers what a crop of the picture. I can totally see the character. Amazing.
Go Kamala Khan!!
God bless America, a truly pluralistic society!
Idiots will say Muslim hero while intelligent will say..just another comic personality....

Young American Muslims are Alhamdolillah very religious & this superhero as always want to spoil our generations.
This is a completely in correct depiction of a Muslim women.
So much better than the stereotype reinforcing Burqa avenger.
What people said about burka avenger in Japan. I just saw this(Burka avenger) on BBC news and it seems brilliant. I really like the art style, too. They are coping the idea of Burka avenger by launching this new muslim super hero despite that Burks avenger is already exist as new super hero!
I red in all in international media , they want to launch new super muslim her after seeing the great success of Pakistan made Burka Avenger. I think if Pakistani media house properly work and make some good cartoon on already established super hero burka anenger. We can capture quite the world market of media industry. It is billion dollar industry. I will urge to burka avenger team just put all your efforts to making more serious on burka avenger. trust me thsi is quite popular in UK. eg I share one of the popular comment for burka avenger.""
