KOHISTAN:

A jirga of tribal elders from Kohistan agreed on Thursday to allow resumption of construction work on the Dasu Hydro Power Project with the condition of acceptance of their demands by January 10. Officials said work on the project will start from today.

The meeting was held at Kohistan Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Shah’s office where Wapda Executive Engineer Muhammad Akram was also present. Shah briefed elders on the project’s importance and the repercussions which followed after affected villagers, led by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s Member Provincial Assembly Abdul Sattar Khan, forced suspension of work on December 15 as their demands had not been met by the authorities.

The villagers had demanded allocation of 100% job quota for non-technical posts, construction of a Wapda college for boys and girls, residential colonies for affected populace, rebated electricity bills and compensation to landowners on market rates.
