DHAKA: The Cable Operators Association of Bangladesh (Coab), a body of cable operators in Bangladesh, threatened on Thursday that they would take all Pakistani television channels in Bangladesh off-air, Thedailystar.net reported.

The ban, if enacted, will be yet another step towards a complete breakdown in fast deteriorating ties between Pakistan and Bangladesh.

It has been reported that the ban on Pakistani channels will be put into effect due to rising tension between the two countries following JI leader Abdul Quader Molla’s hanging.

Pakistani investors who have invested into Bangladesh also face uncertainty after the incident.

Bangladesh’s commerce secretary was quoted as saying “We will decide in a day or two about the participation of Pakistani stalls in the trade fair”. He assured the youth that the demand for suspending trade relations with Pakistan had been conveyed to higher authorities.

Earlier this week, many protestors gathered around the Pakistan High Commission office in Dhaka to protest against Pakistan’s reaction to the hanging – particularly the National Assembly’s resolution condemning Molla’s killing.

Why is subcontinent filled with hate mongers with loudest voices. Where are the progressives and modernists?

There is zero enmity in the hearts of average Pakistani for Bangladesh yet it seems entirely different in Bangladesh who are over blowing on hate.

I think Bangladesh has been very generous toward Pakistan. Read below.

This is an extract of a report from a Pakistani journalist in 1971. Here is the link: http://www.nytimes.com/2013/12/27/opinion/anam-pakistans-overdue-apology.html?rref=opinion&_r=0

“For six days as I traveled with the officers of the 9th Division headquarters at Comilla I witnessed at close quarters the extent of the killing,” Mr. Mascarenhas wrote in a lengthy, damning report published under the headline “Genocide” in the June 13, 1971, edition of The Sunday Times.

“I saw Hindus, hunted from village to village and door to door, shot off-hand after a cursory ‘short-arm inspection’ showed they were uncircumcised. I have heard the screams of men bludgeoned to death in the compound of the Circuit House (civil administrative headquarters) in Comilla. I have seen truckloads of other human targets and those who had the humanity to try to help them hauled off ‘for disposal’ under the cover of darkness and curfew.” Recommend

Bengali’s are very proud of their culture, and neither Pakistan or India can make them think otherwise. So, the Pakistani channels are being banned more because of the hatred they spread based on religion, not because of Pakistan’s dramas or music.

Indian channels / movies are purely entertainment oriented, and are loved in Pakistan and other countries. Imagine if the Indian movies talked bad about everything Muslim, will they be popular in Pakistan?

This is the logic that Pakistanis never think of (assuming there is something called logical or rational thinking left in Pakistan).

Ignorance is the biggest problem you all have.

Bengali is a Sanskrit based language, and so is Hindi and Punjabi and most Indian languages. Most Bengalis can understand Hindi at the very elementary level with some effort (and vice-versa). It has nothing to do with Urdu, which again is Hindi based (the spoken part) to a large extent.

The Indians have never been so obsessed about hating things. They imported and adopted whatever came their way. This is why Hindi has so many Arabic words and no one minds.

My dear Pakistani friends, do not get upset about the current behaviour of Hasina regime. Her downfall is very near go to the any Bangladeshi newspaper to check my words. Hasina is isolated from all corner, from general masses, Muslim world and from rest of the world except India. Hasina is ringed by greedy sycopants who will desert her in difficulties like her father. All this over-enthusiastic behaviour are shown by those people who are making millions by acting too loyal to Awami League. I can assure you most of the Bangladeshies are not hate monger and most of them have forgotten what happened 42 years before. In Bangladesh BNP are known as pro-pakistan and AL as pro India. Now, if there is a free election in BD then trust me AL will fail to get even one-third of total seat which is enough to prove Bangladeshies dont hate Pakistanies.

First commenter named Dhaka is actually from an Indian (see how many like he got from indian,my guess as Bangladeshies do not come to read any foreign news except BBC or CNN). I know Indian are having big laugh about Pak-Bangla fiasco as they hate both as their Muslim neighbour. In Indian newspaper, if there any news about Bangladesh then commentary are full of anti-Bangladesh whatever positive or negative but ironically when its about BanVsPak, the same Indians become Bangla lover in a minute. This Indians even support the Burmese when it comes to Rohinghya issue although, this Rohinghy left current Bangladesh 200 years ago when it was a part of India.

Most well informed and knowledgeable Pakistanis already know what you wrote. India is of course behind the current troubles of Bangladesh, and wanted to make Bangladesh her vessel state by weakening her. Just before the current regime in Dhaka, there existed excellent relations between Pakistan and Bangladesh, and many Pakistani investors and businessmen heavily invested in Bangladesh’s economy and installed several manufacturing units especially in the garments industry. By then, most of the Bangladeshi people hated India for her unfair, hostile, and hegemonic stance towards Bangladesh. Read this investigative report by Ramananda Sengupta, “Why Bangladesh hates India”, published in December 2005. Here is what a Bengali university student told the author:

“After our independence, India has time and again treated us with condescension and disdain. You have threatened to cut off our water sources. You have repeatedly accused us of harbouring anti-Indian rebels on our soil. Your border forces regularly attack our villages, rape our women. You accuse us of flooding India with illegal immigrants. And while mouthing platitudes about a free market, you deny us the right to sell our goods in India without tariffs. We might be poor, but we are Bengalis, we have some self-respect,”

Let India treat Bangladeshis the way they deserve. And in anyway this “country” is going to be largely submerged by raising sea levels. There are news of Sunder bun islands gradually disappearing into water (a wildlife tragedy though) so they will be rewarded by Nature for their killings of thousands of non Bangalis in 1970s. We may let them on their own meanwhile. ET kindly put this comment you would still remain be “liberal” and “secular” even after placing comments of Pakistanis against Bangladeshis and Hindustanis

Bangladesh is in great shape. Much of the violence has been blamed on supporters of Jamaat-i-Islami, the country’s largest religious party which has been barred from fielding candidates on Jan 5.

Three rounds of UN-brokered last-minute talks between the government and opposition have failed to resolve the dispute between the Awami League and the BNP whose leaders despise each other.

The United States, European Union and the Commonwealth countries have announced they will not send observers to the elections, seriously denting its credibility.
Strikes and blockades have crippled the economy, affecting millions of poor farmers and the urban middle class in the impoverished South Asian nation…

    Wither then Bangladesh?

The unity and strength of the sub-continent Muslims has been formally fractured along state divisions into Indians, Pakistanis, Bangladeshis and Kashmiris.
In Pakistan we have further hostile subdivisions between ourselves not just on ethnic, linguistic, caste and provincial lines but also on sectarian divisions of Ahmadi, Sunni and Shia, the Sunni have further infighting between Barelwi and Deobandi. Minorities of which Ahmadis are now one are persecuted even more viciously.
Are we incapable of internalizing the command to Muslims through all our prophets and now the basis of ethics the world over to “do unto others as you would have done unto you”?
Following this basic rule is the foundation for justice, peace and progress.
