Chief of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Altaf Hussain has said that a conspiracy has been hatched to sabotage peace and by-elections in Karachi.

Hussain said the MQM was neither conspiring against the government nor deceiving it and if the government did not change its attitude of going back on its promises, then the MQM will go to the people and seek their opinion about continuing in the government.

Addressing a rally at Nine Zero via telephone, the MQM chief said, “Truth has arrived and falsehood has perished and falsehood is bound to perish. It is Allah Almighty who honours and it is Allah Almighty who dishonours. Whom Allah wills succeeds despite all odds, hurdles and violence. It is He who brings humiliation and defeat to inhuman murderers and their protectors.”

Addressing the government he said, “There is a limit of tolerance. We have stood by the government despite its repeated breach of promises  and assurances but I want to make it clear that MQM’s gesture should not be misconstrued as its weakness. The MQM has sacrificed a lot in the past for justice while attainment of power has never been the party’s manifesto.”

He said that along with the Urdu-speaking people, Punjabi, Pashto, Kashmiri, Sindhi, Balochi and Seraiki speaking people showed their confidence in the MQM in the by-elections and hence the party’s victory is a manifestation of their unity and a reflection of the fact that “people are gathering under the MQM’s umbrella.” Hussain also spoke in Punjabi, Balochi, Sindhi and Pashto on this occasion.

Meanwhile, MQM’s coordination committee said that the culprits of the Shershah market carnage were the same who are involved in the Lyari gang war. It has been learnt through reliable sources that the entire gang of Jabbar Langra Lyari took part in the attack which was led by Baba Ladla, said a statement issued by the committee. The statement further said that the attackers who were riding motorbikes were not intercepted by the police.

Also on Thursday, Federal Minister and MQM leader Babar Ghauri accused Sindh Home Minister Zulfiqar Mirza of patronising criminals involved in the Lyari gang war. Ghauri reportedly demanded that every citizen of Karachi should be given the right to keep arms. He also disagreed with a proposal to hand over Karachi to the army, saying that there is no war going on between Mohajirs and Pathans.
