Acting Chief Election Commissioner Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani resigned from his post after being appointed as the next chief Justice of Pakistan, Radio Pakistan reported.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had on Wednesday given the go-ahead for Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani to be appointed as the next Chief Justice of Pakistan.

Incumbent Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry is set to retire from his post on December 12.

Tassaduq Hussain Jillani – nicknamed “the gentleman judge” for his mild manner – is expected to maintain the court’s focus on rights but steer clear of intervening in government policy.

A dapper lover of poetry, antiques and films, Jillani is related to the new ambassador to the United States Jalil Abbas Jilani and a former prime minister who Chaudhry forced to step down last year.

@Fawad: The successor to a Chief Justice is normally the senior most judge of the Supreme Court. The prime minister does not have substantive discretion in making this selection.

You, Fawad, however, did have discretion in making that comment of yours. Unfortunately, you chose to exercise it in favour of spouting vitriolic idiocy rather than actually determining whether procedure and decorum were followed in the selection of the Chief Justice.

So I wonder then, Fawad, did you make that comment because you're in an idiot or was that only a secondary thing?

I am sure nawaz chose him because of his mild nature and merit or capability was only a secondary thing.
