KARACHI:

The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has set up a main emergency control room (1339) while also establishing emergency camps along the routes of several Muharram 10 processions.

These emergency camps will have fire trucsk, city wardens and ambulance and rescue unit staff. KMC administrator Saqib Ahmed Soomro directed the doctors and paramedical staff of all hospitals to be on standby so that any emergency situation can be handled efficiently. While presiding over a meeting attended by health and municipal officials, Soomro also stated that all arrangements for provision of municipal services have been completed, adding that his office will be open on Muharram 10, along with the offices of municipal services and medical management departments.

“The municipal services department can be contacted on 1339,” Soomro stated. A round-the-clock complaint line can be accessed by dialling 99230071 and 99230061 where additional officers appointed in all 18 city zones can be contacted.

Soomro concluded by urging religious scholars to avoid any provocative speech.
