Former FIA additional director general Zafar Qureshi has accused the PPP government machinery of trying to influence the investigations into the NICL scam.
Qureshi told The Express Tribune that former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gillani, former interior minister Rehman Malik and former law minister Babar Awan tried to influence the investigations of the National Insurance Company Limited scam, involving purchase of real estate on inflated rates.
According to Qureshi, Rehman Malik had asked him to leave the country on the pretext of performing Umrah or instead, to submit a statement in the Supreme Court that the former did not want to continue the investigations into the scam.
The former interior minister did all this to gain favour of Moonis Elahi, who is the son of former Punjab CM Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi of the PML-Q.
The newly appointed NAB chief, Qamar Zaman Chaudhry, who was the then interior secretary, was the only person in the whole government machinery who helped Qureshi do his job lawfully and resist the government pressure, according to the former FIA additional DG.
He said Qamar Zaman was a major source of inspiration and support in the investigation into the matter.
Qureshi was also grateful to Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry. The chief justice protected him to do his rightful duty, says Qureshi.
Qureshi also claimed that Rehman Malik directed the then FIA director general to submit a report saying that the investigations were complete. The FIA DG complied with the ex-minister’s orders and transferred Qureshi on the pretext that the case investigations were complete.

This case gained lot of publicity during the PPP Government and knowing Mr Qureshi personally, his integrity and honesty is beyound any doubt. He told all the facts to the lower and superior court(s) and presented his findings which are on record.It was/is the duty of the courts to decide the fate of case as per merit and do it in reasonable timeframe, not taking months and years because in such instances it is practically "justice denied".
I agree with you khurram
@saud alim:
Its called mukk-mukka. Sharif brothers have loads of corruption cases pending which Zardari protected them from and Sharifs are now returning the favor with likes of Amin Fahim, Navid Qamar, Faryal Talpur, Lanjar and Tappi all being protected by the Nawaz government. CJ needs to take suo moto on NICL.
Why is it that the Nawaz Sharif government, just like the PPP government, is refusing to take action against Ayaz Niazi and Amin Fahim? Niazi has actually left the country and Amin Fahim is walking around free, and can also leave the country as his name is not on ECL. The Sharif government is returning the favor of the PPP government by refusing to act against corrupt politicians. Chief Justice is also counting the days of his retirement and does not seem to care anymore which is a shame.
And, and will the ex-PM be held accountable and thrown in the cooler?? No, no and definitely no. Nothing is going to happen.
@Aftab Nabi:
We do not need enemy if we have people with sick and negative mind like you....instead of appreciating Mr Querishi`s role, potraying him negatively is uncalled for....in our country politics are for people who can tell lies and lies and keep on fooling poor people....it is not for honest living.....
What he is saying is mostly truthful but for him to pretend that Qamar Zaman is a honest is complete rubbish. This guy wouldn`t have been appionted to a job in NAB if he was truthful.
This guy is looking for a future in politics.
NICL Corruption was the love bond between PMLQ and PPP. This is the time to recover the looted wealth!
