KARACHI: KARACHI: Defending champions Pakistan strengthened their chance to reach the final of the Asian Champions Trophy after edging out Malaysia 1-0, today in Kakamigahara, Japan.
The greenshirts, who earlier defeated Oman and China in their opening matches, remained scoreless for most of the match but their efforts paid dividend in the last minute when Shafqat Rasool converted a short corner for a decisive goal.
“It was a low scoring match but still it was a comprehensive win,” team’s head coach and manager Tahir Zaman told The Express Tribune from Kakamigahara.
“The score-line could have been better but the Malaysian goal-keeper resisted well.”
Pakistan, which is leading the six-nation tournament with three successive wins, will play their next match against arch-rivals India on November 7.
