Missing persons: LHC seeks report in one week

Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial passed the orders on a petition moved by the family of the missing persons.

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court chief justice on Friday ordered the Ministry of Interior to file a report in response to a petition seeking recovery of retired major Mujahid Azeem and his son Ali Tariq. Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial passed the orders on a petition moved by the family of the missing persons. The petitioner’s counsel told the court Major (R) Mujahid Azeem had been missing for three months. He said when the family approached the LHC for his recovery, his son Ali Tariq also disappeared. The lawyer said the police and security agencies had failed to recover the men. He requested the court to issue directions to the police and security agencies to recover the missing men. Following court notices, an official of the ministry appeared before the court and said Rangers and the Federal Investigation Agency were investigating the matter. The official requested the court to allow more time to file the report. The court adjourned the hearing till November 7.
