Around 40 suspects were taken into custody during the ongoing targeted raids by the Rangers and police on Wednesday.
The Rangers and police conducted the raids overnight, but no major arrest was reportedly made. Police conducted targeted raids in parts of Orangi Town, including Pirabad and Pakistan Bazaar.
The entire localities were cordoned off during the operation that lasted for at least two hours.
In the door-to-door search operation, the police detained around 26 suspects, out of which 21 suspects were handed over to the Pirabad police station while five others were shifted to the Pakistan Bazaar police station. According to Orangi division SP Chaudhry Asad, no weapon was found in the suspects’ possession. Sources in police told The Express Tribune that after the initial interrogation most of the detainees were released due to lack of evidence.
Separately, around half dozen suspects were taken into custody during a targeted raid in Usmanabad in Garden. The raid was conducted on a tip-off about the presence of suspected criminals. The identities and political affiliations of the suspects detained were not disclosed.
Police also claim to have apprehended two alleged members of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan and Lashkar-e-Jhangvi.
