ISLAMABAD:

Journalists have recorded a protest with the Inspector General of the Islamabad Police on Monday over the police’s lackluster response to an incident in which two Islamabad-based reporters were thrashed and injured by attackers on Eid day.

Two broadcast news reporters were allegedly thrashed by the son of a judicial magistrate and his friends outside Jinnah Supermarket.

The incident occurred after traffic police officer stopped the men for driving in a Toyota Surf with a revolving police light. As the officer was issuing a ticket to the men, they started humiliating him. That is when the reporters, who were in the vicinity for Eid coverage, tried to cover the incident and got attacked by the men.

The police failed to reach the spot despite repeated calls for help from the journalists — both crime reporters for two separate news channels. Hayat assured the journalists that the suspects would be arrested as soon as possible.
