FAISALABAD:

A man in Faisalabad beat up his wife and cut her nose on Friday for filing a divorce petition.

Jaranwala City police said Muhammad Ismail, a resident of Mohalla Rasheed Park, also tried to set her on fire.

Ghulam Fareed, a relative of the victim, told the media that the couple had been married for 10 years. “Two years ago, Ismail’s wife left him citing violent behavior and went back to living with her parents,” he said.

“On October 15, she moved a family court seeking divorce and a maintenance allowance,” he added.

The Jaranwala Station House Officer said on Friday, Ismail visited his wife and cut her nose.

“The woman was taken to a hospital where she was later reported to be out of danger,” he said.

The Station House Officer said police were waiting for a medico-legal report.

Teenager sexually assaulted by two

A teenager was sexually assaulted by two people late on Friday night.

Shehzad Ahmad, a resident of Chak 107-GB, told newsmen that his 16-year-old sister was alone at home when Naveed Ahmad and Sanwal scaled the wall to enter the house and assaulted her.

“When she cried for help, some neighbours gathered outside the house,” he said. “The men ran away.”

He said she was taken to a local healthcare centre. He said the physical examination of the girl revealed signs of sexual assault.

He said his family had filed a complaint with the police but no arrests had been made so far.

Saddar Jaranwala SHO said the police were waiting for the medical examination report before starting investigations.

He said a team had been formed to trace the suspects.
