Quadruple murder: Captain sent on two-day physical remand

The suspect allegedly confessed during an earlier military investigation.

RAWALPINDI:

A local court sent an army captain accused of killing his parents and two sisters on two-day physical remand on Tuesday.

Civil Judge Muhammad Aslam turned Captain Dr Haider Abbas Malik into the custody of the Morgah police and ordered them to produce the accused in court on October 17 for further proceedings.

Earlier, investigation officer Ghulam Shabbir presented the accused captain before the court and sought seven-day physical remand. In his application, the police officer stated that police had to recover the weapon used in the quadruple murder and to trace and arrest his accomplices, if any.

However, the judge discarded the police’s plea and granted only two-day physical remand.

It was learnt that military authorities had taken Dr Haider into custody soon after the funeral prayers of his family members and shifted him to an unknown location for interrogation.

During the course of the military investigation, the captain — the eldest son of a retired brigadier — allegedly confessed to killing his family.

The military authorities formally handed over the accused to the police two days ago.

On September 30, Brigadier (retd) Dr Sikandar Ali Malik, Shahida Malik and their daughters Zainab and Fatima were found shot dead in the bedrooms of their house.
